Help us reach our fundraising goal! We need your help to raise $15,000 to pay for the construction done to bring WFDS 88.1 FM to the air. We know these are tough times financially – but we are called to evangelize our neighbor and there is no better way to accomplish this than with Catholic Radio. Chesapeake Catholic Radio
Chesapeake Catholic Radio is bringing great Catholic programming to the Chesapeake Bay area through our first station in Pennsville, NJ (WFDS 88.1 FM) and online through our streaming feed. We're also working on establishing a station in Leonardtown, MD that we hope have on the air this fall. Please explore the website to learn more about our apostolate and Catholic radio.
Catholic Radio Movement
There are over 15,000 AM/FM radio stations in the United States of America. Ten percent (over 1,500) of these are Protestant-formatted radio stations. The total number of AM/FM radio stations that are Catholic-formatted is 175 (as of the beginning of 2011). Though that seems like a low number in comparison, it is important to know that only ten years ago there were less than 20 Catholic-formatted stations on the air.
Catholic radio has been experiencing a tremendous growth spurt over the last decade (1,000% growth) and, we need to continue at this rate for many years to come. The goal is an obvious one; make Catholic radio available in every community in the United States of America. It is a lofty, yet very achievable goal. Numerous lay-Catholic radio apostolates throughout the U.S. are on the air with their stations and continue to expand. Much of the reason for this is due to the yeomen’s work and abundant generosity of EWTN Catholic Radio Network, the national and international radio division of Eternal Word Television Network. With top-quality content, always in line with the Magesterium of the Church, along with a greater overall support system on numerous levels of acquisition, operation and fundraising, to name a few, Catholic radio is in an ideal position, with God’s grace, to accomplish the mission before it – reaching souls with the fullness of truth.
Absolutely & Authentically Catholic
As lay-Catholics, we take the responsibility of broadcasting the Catholic Faith very seriously. We remain focused on following both the Magesterium and Catechism of the Catholic Church, as well as the Vicar of Christ on earth, as the boundaries of our Faith.
Evangelization and Catechesis
The underlying purpose of our programming is evangelization and catechesis. Many Catholics desire a greater understanding of the Faith. All of us are in need of conversion. Our hope is to help motivate listeners to seek a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ and His Church. In doing so, we hope to participate in a small way in the Church's efforts to change lives and save souls.
